Nuevo Laredo (Agenzia Fides) - For the commemoration of the dead, the "Casa del Migrante" in Nuevo Laredo promoted the celebration of a Mass for all those who died trying to cross the border towards the United States. His Exc. Mgr. Enrique Sánchez Martínez, Bishop of Nuevo Laredo, presided over the Eucharistic celebration during which he highlighted the plight of migrants, especially those of Central Americans. "They are easy victims of the insecurity that reigns in our country", he said, stressing that "we have asked the authorities to reformulate protection programs to prevent these abuses". Finally, he asked for a "prayer for the many anonymous migrants, those who died and who have never been identified, and there are many ...".
La Casa del Migrante Nazarath in Nuevo Laredo have welcomed more than 7,000 migrants in the year 2016. More than 60% are Mexicans, they come from Oaxaca, Chiapas, San Luis Potosi, Durango, Veracruz and Tamaulipas, the rest are foreigners, mostly from Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua. The Casa welcomes them for 3 or 4 nights, offering them food and clean clothing in addition to the possibility to calling family members, so in this way they can rest and then start their journey again.
