Valencia (Agenzia Fides) - The Spanish NGO Promotion and Solidarity with the poor of the Third World (PROYSO), founded by the Congregation of the Capuchin Tertiary, has assisted more than 4,600 children in Equatorial Guinea, as well as being involved in other projects in the African country. Currently, the main project regards the "Luis Amigó" child center (CILA) in the city of Evinayong, Equatorial Guinea, where 250 children between 2 and 5 years of age are assisted.
In CILA three religious women, native teachers and a cook take care of the basic needs related to food, health and the education of children who give them breakfast, lunch and school material. The Luis Amigo child center also has a health care center where 4,500 people are assisted every year, mostly the children of CILA.
The health center also takes care of the rest of the population of Evinayong, including in particular chronically ill people with AIDS, diabetes and hepatitis, pregnant women. Also eight villages in a radius of 50 kilometers from Evinayong receive assistance, since Guinea has no system of public health care, and what there is is not within the reach of patients.
