Ankara (Agenzia Fides) - As part of the ongoing "State of emergency" declared by the Turkish government after the failed coup of July 15, new rules to regulate the activities of newspapers and publications, where there are articles which are not written in Turkish, a category which also includes newspapers that refer to religious minority communities, were published on the Turkish Official Gazette. The new rules prohibit to republish institutional official announcements and advertisements. MP Selina Doğan, deputy of the Republican People's Party (CHP), of Kemalist orientation, submitted an interpellation to Prime Minister Binali Yildirim to ask reason for these measures, which in her view contradict the Treaty of Lausanne - which in Turkey represents the reference point for the protection of minorities - and does not correspond to what is established by the Turkish Constitution regarding the right to information.
