Port-Louis (Agenzia Fides) - "My appointment as Cardinal is an encouragement that the Pope gives to our Church of Mauritius in the Year of Mercy: an encouragement to continue to welcome this mercy which makes us feel good and above all acts as humble witnesses of Mercy", said Cardinal-elect, Maurice E. Piat, Archbishop of Port-Louis.
"I am very thankful to Pope Francis for having called me to such a responsibility. I am very touched by the trust he puts in me which is far from being deserved. As you know, being appointed Cardinal, is first of all an honor. It is first and foremost a responsibility that he has been entrusted to me, to be a close collaborator of Pope Francis and to be called eventually to participate in the election of a Pope. For this I ask you to pray for me, my brothers and sisters in Mauritius, both Christians and followers of other religions", he concluded. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 10/10/2016)
