Neuquén (Agenzia Fides) - On 28 September some feminist organizations, a union of women and a women's political movement, held a demonstration in the streets in the city of Neuquen calling for the decriminalization of abortion. During the march, groups of demonstrators went to the Cathedral and defaced a large mural dedicated to the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, called "Mural of mothers", placed on the side of the Cathedral, and varnished the door of the Cathedral and the Bishopric.
The Bishop of Neuquén, His Exc. Mgr. Virginio Bressanelli, expressed his disapproval of what happened with these words: "At certain times of the year there are demonstrations. Unfortunately, in some cases, as in this pro abortion demonstration, this also happens. This varnish will damage the building and we have to redecorate it in order to erase the writing". Regarding the disfigured murals of the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, he added: "It is a sad fact. I think there are things that are part of the beauty of the town and the heritage of all, so we cannot accept anything like that". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 30/09/2016)
