Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 5, 2016, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev.
Fr. Karl Wallner, of the Cistercian Order as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Austria for five years (1/9/2016-31/8/2021).
Fr. Karl Wallner was born in Vienna in 1963. In 1982 he entered the Cistercian Order in "Stift Heiligenkreuz" monastery, in Vienna, where he carried out his philosophical and theological studies. In 1986 he obtained a licentiate in theology at the University of Vienna. Since his ordination, in 1988, he has served various pastoral roles in Heiligenkreuz monastery, and was parish priest in various parishes. In 1992 he obtained a doctorate at the Faculty of Theology at the University of Vienna. He was a formator for teenagers and students in Stift Heiligenkreuz. Since 2004 he has been member of the Theological Commission of the Austrian Bishops' Conference. In 2007 he was appointed Rector of the new "Benedict XVI Heiligenkreuz" pontifical University, of which he was the founder, a position reconfirmed in 2011. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 23/09/2016)
