Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - On 26 September 2016, the ceremony for the signing of the Peace Accords between the government of President Manuel Santos and former guerrilla group FARC will take place in the city of Cartagena de Indias. This was confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, María Ángela Holguín, according to Fides sources, who then stated that Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin will also be present.
The document, which is titled "Acuerdo Final para la Terminación del Conflicto y la Construcción de una Paz Estable y Duradera", will be signed in front of a large group of diplomatic delegations.
Meanwhile, the country is preparing for the October 2 referendum to ratify the peace: after 52 years of civil war, the people will decide whether to accept or reject the agreements between the government and FARC.
Yesterday, at the end of a dialogue conference between representatives of the private sector and entrepreneurs, Minister María Ángela Holguín said: "A review on behalf of the United Nations will be requested. We will also ask the General Assembly of the United Nations to set up a commission for the political, economic and social reintegration of FARC". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 16/09/2016)
