Tokyo (Agenzia Fides) - The number of cases of child abuse in Japan rose by 42.3% in the first half of the year compared to 2015, and those of psychological violence account for 70% of the total. The data reported by the Japanese police have revealed that in total, 24,511 cases were registered in kindergartens, 20,000 more compared to 2011. As for psychological abuse, 16,669 complaints were registered, 5,565 more compared to the same period of 2015. The serious increase of abuse concerning 18 year olds has forced the Japanese authorities to take various safety measures. These include the sharing of police information with municipalities and kindergartens. In addition, the authorities can intervene in the homes where attitudes considered harmful to minors are suspected. The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has set up an emergency telephone line, just three digits so as to facilitate the complaints. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 16/09/2016)
