Khartoum (Agenzia Fides) - Another scourge is affecting the populations of North Kordofan and North Darfur. Swarms of locusts are infesting the fields and are endangering crops. This is what mainly farmers of the invaded areas of the two regions of Sudan have denounced. Swarms of locusts have formed in areas of Sudan that remain green after the summer rains. In a recent statement, the local Federal Minister added that the invasion has spread in the State of the Red Sea in eastern Sudan. Local institutions have reassured the population that measures have already been taken. According to FAO estimates, a swarm of locusts covering an area of one square kilometer can eat between 80 and 160 tons of crops a day. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 15/09/2016)
