AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Chanes and Guarani ask the Bishop for help: "we have no other way to make our voices heard"

Aguaray (Agenzia Fides) - The native population of the Far North of Argentina, near the border with Bolivia and Paraguay, asked the Bishop of Oran, His Exc. Mgr. Gustavo Óscar Zanchetta, to intervene with the provincial and national Government, so that the authorities respond to their urgent needs. The communities living in the municipalities of Aguaray and Coronel Cornejo belong to Chanes and Guarani ethnic groups.
The note sent to Fides by El Tribune newspaper, informs that the native groups are now tired of promises and meetings that do not solve anything: "When a tragic fact is published in the press, such as the death of the two brothers who because of malnutrition, the Ministers of the natives and early childhood affairs have begun to convene meetings in Tartagal. But we are already tired, because it is always the same: we are invited to a meeting, we talk, but there are never solutions", said one of the leaders.
Another leader, Miguel Angel Humberto, of the Iquira community near Aguaray, said: "There are many Aboriginal children who die, there are many children and adults who die for lack of medical care. If anyone comes to visit the community one can see that more than half of the children are underweight, because what is lacking in the community is the food. That is why we ask the provincial government to also open canteens because 'social cards' are not enough for every day food".
"The decision to ask our bishop Zanchetta to accompany us in the search for solutions, was agreed by the leaders of many communities, because we have no other way to make our voices heard", explained the leader of Palavecino. A few weeks ago Mgr. Gustavo Óscar Zanchetta solved a very delicate situation that concerned the workers in Tabacal and the Provincial Government.
