Ramallah (Agenzia Fides) - Latin Patriarch Emeritus of Jerusalem Michel Sabbah, known by everyone for his closeness to the national Palestinian cause, strongly denounced the "serious deterioration" he perceives in Palestinian society because of what he defined as a strong resurgence of "sectarianism": he did it in a brief speech, broadcast on Arab media such as abouna.org website. In the message, Patriarch Emeritus Sabbah directly addresses both the Palestinian Authority and Hamas, recalling the "duty to correct errors when committed": In particular, the concerns of the Patriarch Emeritus refer to the younger generation and the need to "develop curricula that instil in people the idea that they are all the same". Muslims - remarks Patriarch Sabbah, addressed in particular to the leadership of the Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip - "have the right and the duty to learn the religion of Islam, as well as Christians have the right and duty to know Christianity". According to Latin Patriarch Emeritus of Jerusalem the social life standards of Muslims cannot be imposed on Christians. "We call on Muslims and Christians", concluded the Patriarch "to refrain from sectarianism. Authentic Muslims and Christians are those who love one another, because they recognize that they are created in an equal manner". (GV) (Agenzia Fides 10/09/2016)
