AFRICA/CAMEROON - Appointment of the Rector of the "Blessed Paul VI" major Seminary of Douala

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On June 9, 2016 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Benoit Ewane, of the clergy of the diocese of Nkongsamba as Rector of the "Blessed Paul VI" Theological major Seminary in the Archdiocese of Douala, Cameroon.
The newly-elected Rector was born on January 12, 1964 in Moumekeng. After primary school, he entered Saint Michel minor Seminary in 1978 in Melong and in 1986 he continued his philosophical formation in the Paul VI Regional major Seminary in Bonépoupa. In 1989 he was in Rome at the Pontifical Urban College. He earned a Baccalaureate in Theology at the Urbaniana University (1992), was ordained a deacon (1993) and obtained a licentiate in theology (1994). He was ordained a priest on 10 September 1994 in the diocese of Nkongsamba. After having carried out his pastoral ministry in the parish and at St Michel minor Seminary, in 1996 he started studying again at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome for a doctorate in theology (1998). He went back to Cameroon, and was Vicar of the Cathedral of Nkongsamba, Pastor, teacher in the Seminary, Rector of the preparatory Seminary of Mbanga (2005-2011) and, since 2011 formator at the Paul VI major Seminary in Douala.
