Juba (Agenzia Fides) - A few days after NGO Doctors with Africa Cuamm had remembered the fifth anniversary of the independence of the youngest State in the world, (see Fides 08/07/2016) violent clashes in Juba between the faction of President Salva Kiir and Vice President Riek Machar (see Fides 11/07/2016) have started again. Today CUAMM joins the demands of international and Italian institutions to cease fire as soon as possible. "The staff employed in Juba is safe, but forced into compounds waiting for fighting to end. There is maximum alert for the civilian population who, as always, is the main victim of the war. Fuel is running out and we need to ration the use of technology and communications", says a local note sent to Fides by the press office of the NGO. "People are terrified, afraid. There is no future guarantee. CUAMM continues to ensure the commitment with regards to the health of the population which unfortunately is the main victim in these cases", concluded Fr. Dante Carraro, Director of the NGO. In the country CUAMM helps the population in 7 counties and 3 hospitals where there are 17 Italians, 39 operators from different African nationalities and about 650 southern Sudanese.
