Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - "Abdul Sattar Edhi showed the human face of Pakistan. He was a Muslim who devoted his whole life to charity and to the next, without any discrimination. He taught us that charity has no boundary, no barriers": says to Agenzia Fides Fr. Emmanuel Parvez, pastor in Pansara, a town 25 km from Faisalabad, remembering the philanthropist who in Pakistan was compared to Mother Teresa of Calcutta. Abdul Sattar Edhi died on July 8, 2016: he is a "national hero" in Pakistan, engaged in humanitarian assistance without any discrimination, creator of one of the largest private foundations of social care in Pakistan.
"Abdul Sattar Edhi was an example for the nation, and his services to humanity were a pure manifestation of the love of God. The void left by him will never be filled", reads a note from the "Justice and Peace" Commission of the Pakistani Bishops, signed by the national Director Fr. Emmanuel Yousaf Mani and by executive director Cecil Chaudhry. The note, sent to Fides, expresses the condolences for the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi who "worked tirelessly for the poor and marginalized communities". The ambulance services provided nationwide by the Edhi Foundation are the most efficient in the country "and continue to contribute to the common good in times of need, especially during terrorist attacks and natural disasters". The "Justice and Peace" Commission offers the Edhi Foundation "all necessary assistance to carry out its noble work for humanity" . (PA) (Agenzia Fides 11/07/2016)
