San Carlos (Agenzia Fides) - In the face of the terrible emergency situation in Venezuela, particularly in hospitals (see Fides 21/06/2016), His Exc. Mgr. Polito Rodríguez Méndez, Bishop of the new diocese of San Carlos de Venezuela, yesterday went to visit the General Hospital of San Carlos "Egor Nucete" as the first gesture of attention of the Bishop towards his city where he became Pastor.
The note sent to Fides, informs that Mgr. Polito Rodríguez Méndez was welcomed by the medical staff, nurses, patients and family members. The Bishop greeted and blessed patients, family members, doctors, nurses, volunteers and members of the Caritas Social Pastoral which is present and active in the health center. Finally he had words of encouragement for health workers and volunteers, asking them to continue the work they do in the hospital, especially in these times of crisis that the country is experiencing.
San Carlos is the capital of the Venezuelan state of Cojedes. Founded on April 27, 1678 by Capuchin Pedro de Berja, it has about 100,000 inhabitants. Even this center unfortunately does not escape the violence that is becoming more widespread in the country. According to sources not officially confirmed, 96 people were killed last weekend in Caracas, Zulia, Carabobo, Guarico, Anzoategui, Cojedes, Sucre and Tachira. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 01/07/2016)
