Tlaxcala (Agenzia Fides) - The Vatican has approved the declaration of the Blessed Martyrs of Tlaxcala, as Patron of Mexican childhood, says the Archbishop of Tijuana, His Exc. Mgr. Francisco Moreno Barron to Fides.
Cristobal, Antonio and Juan, were among the first evangelized by the Franciscans and the Dominicans shortly after the conquest. They were cruelly killed by their countrymen because, in the name of the Catholic faith, refused idolatry and polygamy: Cristobal died in 1527, Antonio and Juan in 1529. They were beatified by Saint John Paul II on May 6, 1990, in the Basilica of Guadalupe during his second pastoral visit to Mexico (see Fides 16/11/2015).
Archbishop Moreno Barron came to Rome on June 29 for the blessing of the pallium from Pope Francis, as the new Archbishop of Tijuana. On this occasion he received a copy of the Decree of patronage by the Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Archbishop Mgr. Arthur Roche.
The original Decree was sent to Cardinal José Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Guadalajara and President of the Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM). The news will officially be announced by CEM "as soon as possible". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 30/06/2016)
