Suwon (Fides Service) - Reaffirm the centrality of the family in the Church’s pastoral care was the aim of a symposium held recently in the diocese of Suwon on “Family domestic Church”. At least a thousand people attended the event at which the main speaker was Fr. Casimir Song Yul-sup, who underlined that the future of humanity depends on the family.
Referring to a study by the Pastoral Institute of Korea, Fr. Casimir added that the task of the Church is to form families which are united and harmonious and are able to bear witness and act as agents of evangelisation.
The new millennium, said Fr. Casimir, presents ever greater challenges to the family: the family is the cradle of life which must be protected from the attack of a materialist and rationalist culture which aims to manipulate it and subject it to science and to the will of human power.
It is necessary to reaffirm that life belongs to God. Hence the need for formation on the fundamental concepts of Christian anthropology said the participants involved in Family Pastoral.
The Symposium underlined the need to continue the work at the diocesan level of formation and updating the laity and families. Families are called to offer authentic Christian witness, strengthening spirituality to counter hedonism and secularisation.
