Guanare (Agenzia Fides) - The Apostolic Nuncio in Venezuela, His Exc. Mgr. Aldo Giordano, stressed that it is the duty of the Church to seek dialogue in the country, a dialogue for peace and to meet the needs of the population (see Fides 14/06/2016). "The first concern is peace, how to avoid violence; how to be useful when there are tensions, how to achieve reconciliation. If there are problems with food and medicine, the Pope wants to help the people and support the common good", said Mgr. Giordano during his visit to Guanare, capital of the Portuguesa region, on June 18.
According to the note sent to Fides, the parish of the Sacred Heart of Jesus has been elevated to Sanctuary and on this occasion the Archbishop was in Guanare to preside over the Mass. The Archbishop of Calabozo, His Exc. Mgr. Manuel Díaz Sánchez, and the Bishop of Guanare, His Exc. Mgr. Jose de la Trinidad Valera Angulo were also present. Mgr. Giordano expressed his satisfaction for this visit to the shrine, recently renovated, where hundreds of people gather to pray and listen to the Word of God. "I have the honor of bringing a relic of St. John Paul II, a great father of the Church, a great universal pastor of the Church", said the apostolic Nuncio.
Tensions rise in Venezuela and in coming days demonstrations on behalf of the opposition against the government program will be held, to request the convening of the referendum on the impeachment of President Maduro. Some of these demonstrations have been convened because the National Electoral Council (CNE) has recently canceled the validity of 600,000 signatures collected by the opposition during the last referendum.
