AMERICA/MEXICO - Family massacred in Tehuacan, the Bishop: stop all violence

Tehuacan (Agenzia Fides) - "I am deeply saddened by the tragedy: some hooded people killed members of a family in the Mirador community, belonging to the parish of Coxcatlan. Eleven people killed in only one family, including adults and children, and two girls are in serious condition in hospital". This is what the Bishop of the Diocese of Tehuacan, His Exc. Mgr. Rodrigo Aguilar Martínez said in a statement, who comments on the tragic event which took place on June 9.
The Bishop, according to information sent to Fides, has launched an appeal to not respond to violence with violence, and has asked the authorities to identify the culprits. "Let us leave everything to justice which acts according to law", the statement said.
"I invite everyone to be close to help those who are suffering the consequences. We must forgive, so that bitterness and desire for revenge do not remain in our hearts", the Bishop concluded.
According to information from the local press, the authorities have confirmed the death toll, adding that they were all in the same house at the time of the massacre. It is yet to be deternined whether the massacre was caused by a feud between family groups or for other reasons. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 13/06/2016)
