Maracay (Agenzia Fides) - The crisis that affects the Central Hospital in Maracay due to the lack of medical supplies and surgical materials, has forced medical specialists of the main hospital of the state of Aragua to expressly request the intervention of the Catholic Church.
Doctors have prepared a petition to Pope Francis and the Bishop of the Diocese of Maracay, His Exc. Mgr. Rafael Ramón Conde Alfonzo, with a request to intervene, which they delivered yesterday to the Bishop, during a meeting in the headquarters of the Diocese.
According to information sent to Fides, Dr. Martín Graterol, traumatologist, said that through the letters they want to express their feelings and desire to ask for the help of the Holy Father and Mgr. Conde, "to find as quickly as possible and with the help of God, a solution to the serious problem of the lack of medical supplies we have in hospitals".
Mgr. Conde pointed out that the problem would soon be solved if the national government allowed these medicines to enter the Country, "because so far the government has banned to accept foreign aid". Then he called the situation "very unpleasant" and recalled that international organization Caritas wanted to act as an instrument of mediation, so that the necessary resources would reach the country and be distributed evenly according to the needs and under effective control. "We are confident that the hearts of the rulers are not so hard and will allow the entry of aid offered to us", concluded the Bishop of Maracay(CE) (Agenzia Fides, 09/06/2016)
