Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - The 46th Assembly of the Organization of American States (OEA is the acronym in Spanish) on the theme "Building institutional capacity for sustainable development in America", to be held in the country from 13 to 15 this month, will see the mobilization of the local Catholic Church and will include several peaceful demonstrations against this organism. The note sent to Fides from a local source reported that, for the Church, OEA has been influenced in recent years by sectors that promote abortion and support laws that threaten the tradition and heritage of the country, family and religious freedom.
"OEA hopes that our country signs agreements that compromise our freedom as a nation, because as well as requesting changes in our laws, and expects the InterAmerican Court of Human Rights to have authority over our courts", said His Exc. Mgr. Amancio Escapa Aparicio, O.C.D. Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, after the Mass celebration in the Cathedral on Sunday 5 June.
During the Jubilee celebration for priests, on Friday, June 3, which was attended by almost all priests of the Archdiocese, Mgr. Escapa announced the organized demonstrations, with the recommendation to extend the invitation to all the parishes of the capital.
Before the start of the Assembly of OEA, in which the presence of the representatives of 35 countries is expected, the Archdiocese has scheduled a march that will end in front of the Congress Centre of the Foreign Ministry, just where the meeting will be held. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 07/06/2016)
