Cúcuta (Agenzia Fides) - According to the latest census, 6,400 Afro descendants reside in the city of Cúcuta, on the border with Venezuela. Unemployment and racism are among the main problems regarding members of this ethnic group, that persists in a city that does not learn to live with this population. The problems of insecurity that afflict this sector of the community worsens the situation even more. Threats are the most common cause of abandonment of the city by many Afro. The Metropolitan Police has promoted a day called Mi Sangre Afro where black policemen and border residents hold their hands in a human chain as a symbol of union. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 19/05/2016)
