AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Missionary Congress in Bucaramanga: "Colombian missionary Church goes forth"

Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - "We are the Colombian Church in missionary going forth" is the theme of the XII National Missionary Congress of Colombia to be held in Bucaramanga from 26 to 29 May. The organisers of the congress include the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Colombia together with the Episcopal Conference, especially the Bishops' Commission for Missionary Animation, and the Archdiocese of Bucaramanga.
According to information sent to Fides, the congress will be attended by delegates from 77 ecclesiastical jurisdictions of the country. Coordinated by Fr. Mario Álvarez Gómez, National Director of the PMS, a group of Bishops, priests, religious women and missionaries have prepared the material for the animation of the Congress.
In the document, the PMS present the objectives of the meeting: "to wake up, deepen and mature awareness and the missionary activity of particular Churches, so that their projects and evangelization processes respond generously and effectively to the challenges of the mission ad gentes".
The opening Mass will be presided by Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, Thursday, May 26. The Cardinal will also hold the first conference of the Congress, the following day, on the theme: "Consciousness and missionary responsibility of the particular Churches".
The agenda includes testimonies and conferences of Bishops, religious and missionaries, until the celebration of missionary sending, always presided over by Cardinal Filoni, on May 28. On Sunday 29 the closing Mass and missionary consecration to Our Lady of the Rosary of Chiquinquirá, Patroness of Colombia, which will be presided by His Exc. Mgr. Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga, Archbishop of Tunja and President of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 16/05/2016)
