Amman (Agenzia Fides) - A company dedicated to "sustainable" agriculture, with 600 olive trees planted on an area of 10 thousand square meters, which employs 15 workers, chosen among the Iraqi refugees but also among the unemployed Jordanians: this is the "garden of mercy ", humanitarian project inaugurated yesterday, Thursday, May 12, in Amman, at the Centre "Our Lady of Peace", in the presence of His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Patriarch of Jerusalem of the Latins, and of Archbishop Alberto Ortega Martin, Apostolic Nunzio in Jordan and Iraq.
The initiative, funded by Pope Francis with the offerings of the faithful collected at the stand of the City of the Holy See at Expo Milano 2015 is a concrete sign of the pastoral care of the Apostolic See and the local Churches towards the people of the Middle East, overwhelmed by the conflicts and forced migration.
"The Garden of Mercy" stressed during the inauguration Archbishop Ortega Martin, "is not only the place where refugees and needy people can get a job and a salary, but can also become a place of dialogue and encounter among people of different religions, as was written by Pope Francis in the extraordinary Jubilee Bull of Indiction of Mercy. "During the inauguration - reports abouna.org site - Mr. Wael Suleiman, President of Caritas Jordan, announced the next realization of similar micro-projects in Madaba, Zarqa and Fuheis, aimed at creating jobs in favor of refugees and Jordanian families without an income.
