Faisalabad (Agenzia Fides) - It is one of those cases where high social status and wealth turn into arrogance and arbitrariness towards the weakest and most vulnerable. A wealthy Muslim landowner owner, who has so many Christians at his service, killed a two-year-old Christian child. As Fides learns, Ayaan was killed on 3 May in the Christian district of Nazimabad, Faisalabad. His family was reached by the organization "The Voice" which deals with legal protection and support of minorities, and have filed a complaint to the police.
Haji Rasheed, the murderer, had come to an agreement with Christian Samsoon Masih, a worker and Ayaan’s father, to paint his house. Samsoon, just as he was about to finish the work, asked the agreed sum for the work, which was denied.
After the dispute, Samsoon said he would no longer work in Rasheed’s house. Rasheed, together with his son Bahsrat, broke into the Christian’s house and started shooting indiscriminately. Samsoon Masih and his father Ishaq Masih were injured, while the younger son Ayaan, reached by a bullet in the head, died instantly. Following the reports, the two Muslims were stopped by the police who started the investigation.
Lawyer Aneeqa Maria Anthony, coordinator of "The Voice", told Fides: "We are saddened by the news. An innocent child was killed because of a petty contract to paint a house. It is inhumane. The Pakistani government should help develop a sense of patience and equality in society. Muslims should not consider members of other religions insects or animals to be killed with impunity. We will do our best to obtain justice". (PA) (Agenzia Fides 11/05/2016)
