Phnom Penh (Agenzia Fides) - There are 111 new baptized that enrich the Cambodian Church in the Year of Mercy, and 80 catechumens were admitted, during Lent, to prepare themselves for the Sacrament of Baptism: refers to Agenzia Fides the apostolic Vicariate of Phnom Penh, led by Bishop Olivier Schmitthaeusler. The 111 new faithful were baptized during the Easter Vigil in the Cathedral of Phnom Penh, for the great joy of the whole community.
The Jubilee journey was marked, refers the Bishop, by several very important moments, such as the retreat on the theme of mercy, which was attended by some 500 faithful from various pastoral areas of the Vicariate. Mgr. Olivier, speaking to those present, focused on the theme of grace.
"Grace is a gift from God. Grace is compassion. God waits, welcomes and forgives humanity always. Grace inspires us to live a true conversion of the heart with mercy and justice". The Bishop urged the faithful to practice the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
In the pastoral letter published at the beginning of the Extraordinary Jubilee, the apostolic Vicar had invited to live the Year of Mercy in the name of charity works inspired by the Gospel of the Good Samaritan, and making at least one pilgrimage. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 09/05/2016)
