EUROPE/GREAT BRITAIN - Schooling for 75 million children in Countries where there is humanitarian crises

London (Agenzia Fides) - About 75 million school age children and adolescents, who live in Countries affected by the crisis, need schooling programs. This is what the British organization Overseas Development Institute (ODI) reported in a study urged by UNICEF and the Governments of Great Britain, United States and Norway. Around the world 37 million children are out of school due to war or to other types of emergencies.
In Syria alone 6,000 schools are closed. In Nigeria and Cameroon 1800 colleges are not operating, while in the Central African Republic a quarter of the existing structures do not give its educational service. The document was released less than three weeks from the first Global Humanitarian Forum to be held in Istanbul, during which a clear reference to the problem of education is expected. The goal is to create a fund to finance educational programs in Countries in crisis. It is necessary to immediately collect about 4,000 million dollars in order to offer, in the next five years, schooling to 13 and a half million children living in conflict zones.
