Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - Policemen in riot for the killing of a policeman and set fire to 139 homes last weekend in Mombeleke area in Sankuru, in eastern Kasai in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The policeman had been killed by the inhabitants of the village of Asanga Kianga, who opposed to the arrest of a young man accused of seriously wounding his brother. The situation remains tense and the inhabitants took refuge in the forest. Local authorities have sent the military to bring the police back to calm. Other incidents among the population and police took place on April 18 in Kanina a town 12 km from Kolwezi (Katanga in southern DRC). The clashes erupted when the police intervened to retrieve the bodies of two people killed in an area of the city. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 20/04/2016)
