Daejeong (Fides Service) - Two thousands people contacted, met, evangelised: this was the fruit of activities of festivity and proclamation connected with the Feast of Saint John Bosco, recently by pupils at Salesian schools in Daejeong, South Korea. The young people celebrated the feast of Don Bosco in mid October instead of 31 January, when it is overshadowed by various national holidays.
Don Bosco Day was an opportunity to share Salesian spirituality with the local Church and local people. Some 2,000 participants, focussed on sharing: some brought food for poor children, others organised games; the Good News of the Kingdom of God was announced to young and old, thanks also to volunteers from various parts of the diocese.
According to the Salesian bulletin ANS in Daejeong the Salesian Novitiate continues its valuable service of formation proposing the Gospel values to school pupils. The Church in Korea affirms that Catholic schools have the right to teach the Catholic faith also to non Christians, with full respect for the children’s freedom of religion. The witness of teachers, priests and religious is an important means of evangelisation. Catholic schools are important for the Church in Korea and for the whole country because they educate to values which are the foundation of peace, promoting uprightness of conscience and respect for the common good.
