Dakar (Agenzia Fides) – To make proposals for migration policies that go beyond the current approach based solely on security, through a partnership between African and European countries. This is what will be discussed at the seminar with the participation of the Caritas of the Sahel, North Africa and Europe, to be held in Dakar, Senegal, from 19 to 21 April.
The seminar, whose theme is "Migratory crisis and human rights. What roles, what action for Caritas of the Sahel, North Africa and Europe?", is organized by Caritas Senegal and the Secours Catholique/Caritas France.
West African Caritas (Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Senegal), of North Africa (Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia) and Europe (Germany, Spain, France, Italy, Belgium) will take part in the seminar.
"Africa in general and North Africa, in particular, find themselves on the international scene after the management of migration trends around the Mediterranean took on a police form" says a statement sent to Agenzia Fides. "The limits of such approach is seen in the dramas whose death toll is appalling".
Faced with this tragedy Caritas with their territorial networks intend to "involve the Caritas offices in a complementary scheme, offering lasting solutions, and even positively conditioning the formulation of migration policies in Africa and in Europe". (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 13/04/2016)
