AFRICA/SOUTH SUDAN - After the signing of the agreement with the rebels of Western Equatoria "comes the arduous task of rebuilding"

Juba (Agenzia Fides) - "This is the first kind of peace deal to be realized in one of the 28 countries of Southern Sudan" stressed His Exc. Mgr. Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, in his speech at the signing of the Peace & Reconciliation Agreement between the government of Juba and South Sudan National Liberation Movement (SSNLM), a local rebel group operating in Western Equatoria State. The conflict between the south Sudanese army and the rebel group exploded in May 2015.
Mgr. Kussala, head of the Inter-Faith Council for Peace in Western Equatoria State, inter-religious body that did a great deal to reach the agreement signed on April 2, on the basis of preliminary agreements signed on November 16, 2015. Also this Preliminary Peace Agreement had been reached thanks to the work of the organism presided by Mgr. Kussala.
After thanking all those who contributed to the achievement of the peace agreement, the Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, does not hide that "after the signing of the agreement comes the arduous task of rebuilding our broken pieces, relationship, the fragile economy, social and political infrastructure of our states and the whole country", stressing the role not only of material aid but also spiritual aid in order to reconcile the souls.
Mgr. Kussala then recalled that the peace agreement in Western Equatoria must also have a vision for a lasting and sustainable peace in the whole of South Sudan. In this regard, an important step forward in the implementation of
lasting peace for South Sudan is the arrival in the capital, Juba, of 800 men loyal to Machar, that will have to guarantee security. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 08/04/2016)
