Rio de Janeiro (Agenzia Fides) - More than 3 million underage children and young Brazilians are involved in the labor market, 31% in agriculture. This is what emerges in a report recently submitted by the Abrinq Foundation for the rights of children and adolescents. According to information sent to Fides, the data of the report, entitled "Childhood and Adolescence Overview - 2016", shows that 44% of children live in poverty and 17% in extreme poverty. Other 188,000 are undernourished, about 69,000 are underweight and half a million are obese. 19% of homicides in Brazil are committed against children and adolescents, 80% of them use firearms. Out of a population of 61 million inhabitants, only 25% of children from birth to three years manages to attend kindergarten and 19% of young children has a teenage mother. Schooling rate in the country is high, about 96%, but only 56% of children finish school. Article 7 of the Brazilian Constitution prohibits night work, dangerous or unhealthy work for children under 18 and any other type of work for children under 16, except for apprentices starting from 14 years of age.
