Callao (Fides Service) - Organised by the office for universal pastoral of the diocese of Callao with the collaboration of the University of Callao, Bartolome de las Casas Institute and the Association of Social Services and Initiatives the 1st Social Week of the University of Callao opens today at the Auditorium of the Mathematics Faculty, Callao National University. The week will end on 28 October. The slogan, “Knowing the present to build the future”, clearly indicates the objective of the event: to give young professionals an opportunity for reflection, impulse for commitment for the common good, starting from knowledge of the situation in Peru, complex and changing, to highlight the role each one is called to play to promote the common good .
The week of intense activity will include conferences, debates, panel discussion, a series of films and an exhibition of photographs. The work starts today, 24 October, with the first conference “Economy and development and the social situation in Peru today. Millennium Goals”. Tuesday 25 October the students will reflect the “Value of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission two years on”. Wednesday 26 Bishop Miguel Irizar of Callao will speak on “The Social Doctrine of the Church in John Paul II. Influence in Peru”. Thursday 27 and Friday 28 there will be panel discussion on “Democracy, politics and participation in Peru of the 21st century” and “Civic Ethics. Crisis of values in Peru?”.
