Neiva (Agenzia Fides) - "You cannot think about peace in Colombia if you do not eradicate serious corruption that pervades the country", said the Bishop of the Diocese of Colombia in Neiva, His Exc. Mgr. Froilan Tiberio Casas Ortiz, at the beginning of Holy week. The Bishop called on Catholics to live this week in reflection and commitment on the theme of peace, asking politicians in the region to moderate their speeches of hatred and resentment.
From the information gathered by Fides, the population of the department of Huila, in part under the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Neiva, suffers a lot because of corruption in the hands of FARC and political parties. On March 16, 7 FARC guerrillas were captured who demanded bribes to local traders for an alleged "protection". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 23/03/2016)
