AFRICA/CAMEROON - Erection of the Diocese of Kumba and appointment of the first Bishop

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On March 15, 2016, the Holy Father erected the new Diocese of Kumba, Cameroon, with territory taken from the Diocese of Buéa, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Bamenda. The Holy Father appointed His Exc. Mgr. Agapitus Enuyehnyoh Nfon, Auxiliary Bishop of Bamenda as first Bishop of Kumba.
The erection of the Diocese of Kumba will include the Provinces of Ndian and Meme, in addition to a part of the Province of Kupe-Manenguba. It will border to the north with the Diocese of Mamfe, to the west with Nigeria, to the east with the Diocese of Nkongsamba. It will be a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Bamenda. The present parish church of Fiango, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, will become the cathedral church of the diocese of Kumba. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 15/03/2016)
