Abuja (Agenzia Fides)- The local police have arrested a person suspected of taking part in preparations for the Christmas 2011 attack on the church of Saint Teresa of Madalla, near Abuja, capital of Nigeria. The incident which left 44 people dead, and is seen as the most serious attack perpetrated by Boko Haram on a Christian place of worship, was launched at the same time as other similar attacks on Christian churches in which 200 people died (see Fides 28 e 30/12/2011).
According to reports sent to Fides, Victor Moses, charged with being the spy who supplied the necessary information for the bomb attack, was arrested in the town of Alkaleri, in the north eastern Nigerian state of Bauchi. Moses had gone to a local mosque claiming he was a Christian who wanted to convert to Islam. The man who organised the attack, Kabiru Sokoto, was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. (L.M.)
