La Rioja (Agenzia Fides) - The administration of President Mauricio Macri "is tracing a path" in favor of mining projects and "now we have to listen to the people and reach social consensus", said the Bishop of the Diocese of La Rioja, His Exc. Mgr. Marcelo Colombo to the local press yesterday, and stressed: "It is important for rulers to listen to the people and discuss to see if the activity has social consensus". In fact, "now we have to see what happens at a provincial level, because it must be clear that water is a very important wealth" reported the Bishop.
"The Church's doors are open to bring together the parties and carry out dialogue. The situation was discussed in the province in 2015 and the result was that MIDAIS mine had to go away (see Fides 5/11/2015), even with the consent of the provincial government, to defuse a conflict in Famatina", recalled the Bishop to the local media. "I insisted on the necessity of social consensus for the business initiatives that could affect the environment and the health of the population", stressed on that occasion Mgr. Colombo in his pastoral letter to the community. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 19/02/2016)
