Bujumbura (Agenzia Fides) – Rumors are circulating that the rebels are preparing to attack forces in Burundi to oust President Pierre Nkurunziza. This was reported to Agenzia Fides by local sources who requested anonymity for security reasons.
"We know that the rebels are becoming more and more numerous, and that both the government in Bujumbura and the rebels are rearming themselves", say our sources. "Every day we record new deaths and new shootings around the capital".
Both a report of a UN group of experts and the US government have accused Rwanda of arming the Burundian guerrilla war that is opposed to President Nkurunziza. An accusation already made by the Burundi authorities. The government in Kigali announced today, February 12, the intention to transfer the approximately 75,000 Burundian refugees welcomed on its territory to other Countries.
"Dialogue is urgently needed to avoid further bloodshed; we hope that the delegation that the African Union intends to send to meet with President Nkurunziza arrives as soon as possible in Bujumbura. But so far no date has not been announced", conclude Fides sources. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 12/02/2016)
