Cucuta (Agenzia Fides) – No formal decision has been taken by COSPA (Corporación de Servicio Pastoral Social) of the Colombian diocese of Cucuta, after the news, released on Monday, February 8, regarding the management of the school feeding program (Programa de Alimentación Escolar, PAE) for this year, 2016. It will therefore have to ensure breakfast and lunch to 58,021 elementary school students in Cucuta, largely run by the Church and with no help from outside.
The announcement was made by the Mayor of Cucuta, catching everyone by surprise, even COSPA, that on same day gathered to revise the contractual obligations. Now a decsion of the Bishop Cucuta, His Exc. Mgr. Víctor Manuel Ochoa Cadavid, on this responsibility is expected.
Colombia has been long living a serious situation of corruption at all levels. It is recent news of the request for a bribe to the Church to help and feed the malnourished children, as in the case of La Guajira (see Fides 03/02/2016). (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 10/02/2016)
