Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 8, 2016, the Holy Father appointed Rev. Shorot Francis Gomes, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Dhaka, Bangladesh,. He was assigned the Titular See of Forma
Rev. Shorot Francis Gomes, was born on December 15, 1965 in Hashnabad, in the Archdiocese of Dhaka. After completing his primary and secondary school studies at the Holy Cross School in Bandura, he entered the Little Flower Minor Seminary (Dhaka). He then continued his studies at St. Joseph Intermediate Seminary in Dhaka.
While living in the seminary, he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) at the Notre Dame College in Dhaka. In 1984 he entered the Holy Spirit Major Seminary in Dhaka and completed his philosophical and theological studies. He was ordained a priest on May 31, 1990 for the Archdiocese of Dhaka.
Since his ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 1990-1994: Assistant priest of the Cathedral and Nagari Church; 1994-1998: Rector of the Little Flower Minor Seminary, Bandura; 1998-2002: Studies in Moral Theology at the Alfonsianum, in Rome; 2002-2005: Parish Vicar of Nagari and Tejgaon Church; 2005-2009: Vice Rector of the Holy Spirit Major Seminary, Dhaka; 2009-2012: Rector of the Holy Spirit Major Seminary, Dhaka; 2012-2015: Vicar General of the new diocese of Sylhet.
