ASIA/CAMBODIA - The Jubilee Year, fruitful time for interreligious dialogue

Phnom Penh (Agenzia Fides) - Let yourself be touched by the grace of God to have a heart open towards others, in a frank and friendly atmosphere: is what His Exc. Mgr. Olivier Schmitthaeusler, Vicar Apostolic of Phnom Penh asks the faithful Cambodians, remembering, in a note sent to Agenzia Fides, that the Jubilee Year is a favorable time to practice and deepen dialogue. Especially since the 50th anniversary of the decree of the Second Vatican Council, "Nostra Aetate," which encourages dialogue and collaboration with the followers of other religions, recognizing and valuing those moral and socio-cultural values present in the faithful who profess a different creed. Interreligious dialogue is a particularly sensitive and important issue in the Asian context, where Christians live, in most countries of the continent, as minorities.
The Vicar Apostolic then recalls another significant anniversary, the 50th anniversary of the conciliar Constitution "Gaudium et Spes".
May the faithful Cambodians, "united in Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit in their journey towards the Kingdom, welcome the Gospel of salvation for themselves and for everyone" he hopes, indicating a "program of the Holy Year": "Let yourself be touched by the grace of God to have a heart open towards others, in a frank and friendly atmosphere".
