Mexico City (Agenzia Fides) - Indigenous peoples "need justice and recognition", stresses the editorial of the magazine of the Archdiocese of Mexico City. "They are often blocked by incomprehension and populism; they are hit by deep wounds caused by rulers and leaders who take advantage of their needs by putting them at a disadvantage", continues the archdiocese.
When it comes to indigenous people one always says that they are "indispensable for the future", however, when it comes to the facts, the people and the indigenous communities "live in critical situations, in contempt and poverty". The statement sent to Fides also says that "questionable policies" are adopted for these communities that "say they recognize them", but in reality maintain "discrimination, violation of fundamental human rights and paternalism", using them for electoral purposes.
