Querétaro (Agenzia Fides) - "It is worth making a list of what you can do with all this money ... Given the abundance of money, I believe we must demand services where there are not any, we must require health centers where they are lacking, we must also assist those who want a job, I think one can do many things and give priority to poverty. We cannot speak of many millions when our people are poor". This is what His Exc. Mgr. Faustino Armendáriz Jiménez, Bishop of Querétaro said after the celebration of the day of communicators, during an interview with local reporters yesterday, Sunday, January 24.
The Bishop answered a question about the huge amount of money that political parties will receive this year: the figure is around 60 million Mexican pesos, which arouses scandal in public opinion. Mgr. Armendáriz Jiménez commented that "these resources could be allocated to the social sector, because we know that elections will be held in 2018".
Mexican political parties receive funds for their activities primarily through public funding, even though the law provides for the possibility of private funding. Public funding received by political parties is perceived as excessively high by groups of Mexican society. Public opinion agrees on the need to reduce the cost of election campaigns.
