AMERICA/MEXICO - Violence fruit of revenge: 10 executions in 24 hours in the state of Guerrero

Acapulco (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops of the dioceses of the Mexican state of Guerrero agree that the origin of the climate of violence in the state are to be found in anger and the population’s desire for revenge, exasperated by the lack of justice.
On the occasion of the joint Pastoral meeting of the 4 dioceses of the state, held yesterday in Ciudad Altamirano, the Bishops of Chilapa-Chilpancingo, Acapulco, Tlapa and Ciudad Altamirano, highlighted that Guerrero and Mexico will continue to have many "Arcelia's" until the heart of individuals is reconstructed: "We must sow the values of love, peace, tolerance and reconciliation, if we fail, we will continue to have more and more Arcelia's".
On 19 January 4 people were killed by blows of a firearm in Arcelia, a small town in the state of Guerrero. On the same day, again in the area of Guerrero, six other people were killed by armed groups. So 10 people were killed in 24 hours only for revenge or settling of scores.
The Archbishop of Acapulco, His Exc. Mgr. Carlos Garfias Merlos said that since 2010 the Bishops of Guerrero have analyzed the factors that are behind the violence in the state. "There are desires of revenge and anger that are due to different reasons and different circumstances", explains the Archbishop of Acapulco in the note sent to Fides.
"We have done everything possible to promote forgiveness and different forms of reconciliation to help rebuild the social fabric throughout the state", concluded Mgr. Garfias Merlos. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 21/01/2016)
