Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - The President of the Dominican Episcopal Conference (CED), His Exc. Mgr. Gregorio Nicanor Peña Rodríguez, yesterday presented the pastoral Letter on the occasion of the Feast of Our Lady of Altagracia, Patroness of the nation, which will be celebrated tomorrow, 21 January, in the country.
The document, sent to Fides highlights the main themes of political corruption and violence within families. "The exercise of politics has become a business for easy money, and it is only for a few". "Corruption creates scandalous injustice and social inequality, widening the gap between the people who have become rich, as if by magic, without further justification other than after taking a position in the public administration" reiterated Mgr. Peña Rodríguez.
The pastoral Letter deplores the violence and crime that range from femicide in family to kidnappings and killings. The Dominican Episcopal Conference noted in this letter, that it "is terrible to see a person killed for a mobile or bear the shame of recognizing authority members that have to guarantee public order and combat violence who are instead involved in criminal acts".
