Monday, 18 January 2016 bishops   pity   elections

Matagalpa (Agenzia Fides) - During one of the many religious celebrations in honor of the "Lord of Esquipulas", held last weekend in the city of Esquipulas, the Bishop of the diocese of Matagalpa (in the northern part of the country), His Exc. Mgr. Rolando José Álvarez Lagos, urged the faithful in Nicaragua, to live, in this election year, according to ethical conduct, following the values and principles of faith.
"I ask the people of God not to behave like Cain, because there must be no Cain in Nicaragua in this election year" urged the Bishop calling at the same time the faithful to knock down "barriers and borders that often political parties want to impose".
The great celebration began last week, with the mass pilgrimage from different points of the country to the Diocesan Shrine of Our Lord of Esquipulas, to celebrate the religious feast in honor of the "Black Christ" as it is called by the people of Central America. The feast is celebrated in fact also in Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Mexico.
The pilgrimage to the Shrine of Esquipulas was established 21 years ago by the then Bishop of Matagalpa and current Archbishop of Managua, Cardinal Leopoldo Brenes, and every year there is a growing participation of the faithful. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 18/01/2016)
