Adelaide (Agencia Fides) – More than three thousand young people from every diocese in Australia have arrived in Adelaide to take part in the Catholic Youth Festival, a three day gathering organised by the local Catholic Church in Australi . The Festival, which opened today , 3 December, involves young people under 25 who with the help of their bishops, priests and Religious Brothers and Sisters, will reflect deeply on the meaning of mercy and its ensuing joy and how to bring this to all areas of life: personal, community, study, work, in society, and in communications.
As we see from a statement sent to Fides by Malcolm Hart, Head of the Youth Office at the Australian Catholic Bishops’ Conference “the Festival offers young people a unique opportunity to understand the diversity and richness of the Catholic Church ”.
The Festival has chosen as one of the principal themes for reflection the Beatitudes, “Blessed are the pure in heart because they will see God” (Mt 5, 8), which Pope Francis chose for the theme of World Youth Day 2015, and in preparation for World Youth Day in Krakow 2016.
The purpose of the Festival, the Australian Bishops’ Conference says “is to offer young people the opportunity to reflect on their relationship with Jesus, in order to be his disciples in the world today”. The first edition of this festival was held in Melbourne in December 2013. (PA) (Agencia Fides 3/12/2015)
