Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 30 November 2015 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Vincent Kirabo, professor at St. Mary's National Major Seminary Ggaba, Kampala as Bishop of Hoima (Uganda).
Rev. Vincent Kirabo was born on 1 October 1955 in Kyanaisoke, in the District of Kabaale, in the diocese of Hoima. From 1962 to 1972 he attended primary and secondary schools; from 1973 to 1979 he completed his priestly formation in the national major Seminaries: Uganda Martyr's National Major Seminary in Gulu Alokolum (studies in philosophy) and St. Mary's National Major Seminary Ggaba in Kampala (theological studies). He was ordained a priest on September 9, 1979 for the Diocese of Hoima.
Since ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic studies: 1979-1988: Lecturer at the St. John Bosco Minor Seminary, Hoima; 1985-1988: Director of the Diocesan Commission for Vocations; 1988-1990: Masters in Education at the University of Portland, USA; 1990-1991: Assistant priest in Muhorro; 1991-1992: Rector of St. John Bosco Minor Seminary, Hoima; 1992-1997: Diocesan Administrator for Finance, Hoima; 1998-2003: Pastor of Buseesa; 2003-2007: Licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University; 2007-2008: Pastor in Katulikire; 2008-2012: Professor and Bursar at Uganda Martyrs' National Major Seminary Alokolum, Gulu; since 2012: Professor at the St. Mary's National Major Seminary Ggaba, Kampala.
The Diocese of Hoima, erected in 1965, is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Mbarara. It has an area of 17,200 square kilometers and a population of 2,084,214 inhabitants, of whom 1075,812 are Catholics.
