Hong Kong (Agenzia Fides) - "The integration of the catholic Church in China with the society": is the theme of the fifth edition of the Seminar organized by Faith Institute for Cultural Studies (FICS), Yuan Dao Study Society in Hong Kong and People University in Beijing, which was held in Hong Kong on 17 and 18 November.
According to information sent to Agenzia Fides, Cardinal John Tong, Bishop of the Diocese of Hong Kong, opened the seminar as host, and highlighted the presence of the Catholic Church in mainland China in recent decades. "It is encouraging to see that in Chinese society today misunderstandings towards the Catholic Church are declining thanks to dialogue and meetings". He encouraged Chinese Christians, especially the academics present, to "be aware of their social responsibility, applying their Christian faith, committing themselves as Catholics in the development and building of the Chinese society in every, spiritual, economic, moral field ...".
In two days of debate, sixty high level representatives from the Chinese religious, political and academic world presented a series of speeches on various topics, such as the situation of religion in the context of international relations today; the possible contribution of the Christian faith in building the rule of law in China; today's society and the inculturation of evangelization; contemporary consecrated life before the big challenge of secularization.
