Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 7 November 2015 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Mgr. Damase Zinga Atangana, Vicar General of the diocese of Obala as Bishop of the Diocese of Kribi, in Cameroon.
Rev. Mgr. Damase Zinga Atangana was born on December 9, 1964 in Nkog Bong, in the diocese of Obala. After primary school in his native village, and secondary school at the Jean XXIII College in Efok, at the Sainte Therese Minor Seminary and the Vogt College in Yaounde, he attended courses in philosophy and theology at the Notre Dame de l'Immaculée Conception Major Seminary of Nkolbison, in Yaounde. He was ordained a priest on July 25, 1992 and incardinated in the diocese of Obala.
Later, he studied in France, where he earned a Doctorate in Moral Theology, a Diploma in History and Sciences of Religions (at Charles de Gaulle Lille University), and a specialization in Bioethics (at the Marc Bloch University in Strasbourg). Since ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 1992-1997: Rector of the Saint Joseph Minor Seminary in Efok; 1997-2003: Studies of specialization in France; since 2003: Vicar General of Obala; 2003-2010: Pastor of Sainte Anne and diocesan Chaplain of the Dames Apostoliques; since 2010: Rector of the Notre-Dame du Mont Carmel Cathedral (under construction).
